Take for an example of paraphrase the following text:

“He went on to take second place in the motorcycle grand prix that day, beating out the third sponsored motorcycle. He has been riding since he was five, and says his previous experience on dirt bikes in his childhood lead to his interest in racing. Some commentators have noted that his stunts resemble the sport of motocross. Although these have made him popular with endorsers, race organizers consider them unsafe and have sought to ban many of the more onerous tricks that he has pulled off the starting line. They have threatened to remove him, saying that he is a bad influence on younger riders.”

This could easily be reduced into an example paraphrase by taking a look at the most important points. A sample paraphrase might read:

“His bike took second place today, and that’s rather impressive considering his riding style. He tends to pull off dangerous, unnecessary stunts and that makes organizers unhappy with him. In fact, he could be removed in the future.”

The other comments in the previous example of paraphrase were unnecessary details that didn’t add too much to the story.

Any examples of paraphrase are bound to have some sort of bias. In the above example paraphrase, one could say that safety measures needed to be emphasized more. Safety is an important issue in motor sports, so a news writer might want to focus on that. Recognizing these biases is important to becoming a more objective writer.
